Well, number one turns thirteen tomorrow! Two months ago, I had King put on his calendar to come home from work a little early so that she and I could have a "date" together. I told her that if she wanted to, she could have her ears pierced (the age 13 rite of passage in our family), we could get some make-up (blush and lipstick only), and we would pick out a special fragrance for her (nothing too strong).
Tonight was a testament to proper planning. She and I had a BLAST! We went to the mall and did all the above mentioned things as well as went out to eat and then did a "victory lap" at Old Navy.
My favorite part was when we went into the little picture booth thing and had our strip of four pictures taken. She chose the theme (a new feature for any of you who remember the black and white photo strips we had lo those many years ago) "Best Friends" to go above our pictures.
Even though she got all the prizes, it was me who got the best gift of all... time with one of my best friends in the whole world.

I love being my daughter's friend. I know, I know, I'm her mother first and of course I do tell her to clean her room and unload the dishwasher and not to say "like" so much, but reward for all that mothering is wonderful moments like you've described. Congrats on having a teen and wishing you many more successful shopping trips!
I'm trying to blog again!
Kathy
Congratulations to both you and C--you for being the mother of a teenager and C for becoming a teenager! Sounds like you had a wonderful time; I need to do more things like that with my oldest:-)
My C is still talking about what a good time she had with youall, though unfortunately it's with a high fever, sore throat, and all the misery of a bad virus! At least it's forced us to stay home and get things done around here!
All the best to you two!
Love to you-- Tish
she looks so much like mom at age 13 in the photo booth pics she has. what a great day!!!
love y'all!!!
What a fun, fun evening. Make-up, ears pierced, Old Navy . . . all wonderful, but I think the most memorable are those fun picture booth photos. You should get them framed.
