bless me

I am currently reading a book that everyone else in the world has already read years ago, Angela's Ashes.
On reading the chapter in which little Francis makes his First Confession - Let's just say that I am glad I had not just taken a sip of tea or something. I would have spewed it.

I am about halfway along, so nobody spoil the ending, k?

Good book, I thought. My Nana hated it because she felt it misrepresented the Irish people. She had a happy childhood despite their poverty, so don't think that's everyone's life okay? haha

I am loving it... and it has some very tragic stuff but it is told through the author's viewpoint when he was a child, and parts of it are absolutely hysterical.
I think it represents poverty everywhere, not just the Irish. The thing that makes it not so crushingly depressing is that you know the author made it through it all. Y'know sort of a "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" kind of thing. My last thought is that my kids have it GOOD and I feel so much better telling them "no" over stupid stuff they want when I think about what the McCourts lived without.

kinda like when my girls complain, i whip out the "do you know your daddy was picking cotton in the hot sun when he was 5 years old?!" speech.
